What shoould I play for my piano competion?

Hey! I enter a piano competition with my school every year. We have three different meets: October, December, and January. I’m trying to pick two or three songs for next year to work on over the summer. The competition is 7-12th grades, and I will be a sophmore next year in level 4 of the Piano Adventures series. A few songs in my resume are:

Phantom of the Keys*
Fur Elise
Clair De Lune
Norwegian Concerto*
Tarantella
The Wedding March*
Love is in the Air (from Charlie Brown)

*used in last year’s competition where I got third

Does anyone have any suggestions? It doesn’t have to be something that would go with level 4, I start earlier so I can do more challenging pieces. Our judges seem to love really dynamic pieces, as well as faster ones. Thanks in advance!
I definitely agree about Fur Elise. Three people played it last year.

Also, I’m looking for something that I haven’t already done. I gave a few that I’ve already played to let you know what level I’m at if you aren’t familiar with Piano Adventures.
I was just re-reading my question and I noticed that I used “resume” where I meant to use “repetoire”. (sp? I’m tired, sorry) I was looking at some audition stuff right before I asked the question, so I still had my resume on my mind. Sorry!

Clair de Lune (Debussy) all the way! Gorgeous and flashy!

I wouldn’t do Fur Elise because EVERYONE does that. I’m not really sure though. I play piano!

I have loved classical music all of my life, I play classical guitar, as for piano favorites, all time favorite, Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata , it’s one of the best, people never get sick of that piece, I also love Chopin’s opus 72, one of the new Secret Garden movies plays this all through the film and it was great. Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No.3 in C major, op2 No.3 is also great, I love the Adagio, it’s about 8 minutes long. Good luck, and let us know what you decide to play!!!!!!!!

You didn’t say whose Tarentella it is, but those can be quite good and flashy. It sounds like they let you play more than one if you won 3rd with three pieces last year (we don’t call them songs unless we sing them!)

Given that list, go for contrast – the Tarentella, Clair de lune, and Love is in the Air sound as though they would provide that contrast. Good luck to you. If you want some interesting 20th century works, look at Muczynski’s works – they are great!
