Move vertical piano 4000 miles without damage it?

I really like my piano and want to take it when I move from west to east cost in US. I am planning to hire prefessional relocation company to move all my house stuff together with my piano. I plan about $1000 budge for the piano move.

However, my friend just told me the piano will be damaged because of the shaking and bumping of truck during moving. So my piano will not work as well as now after moves. Is this true? I do not want to “kill” my piano…

Suppose the piano will not be damaged…Any idea about whether $1000 is enough for moving a vertical piano? Can I use general relocation company, or I have to ask for a special piano mover company?

How much scrap metal could I get from a piano?

I know that grand pianos and small uprights have different amounts of metal. But I’m curious if there is enough metal in any piano to make it worth scrapping. I know the bass strings are steel, wrapped in copper. I think there must be some brass parts as well. Many people want to give away old junk pianos. I have moved several pianos in the past and have a moving trailor and tools. I’m wondering if I could turn a profit scrapping.
